Sunday 25th December at 4.30pm, Exeter Chorale with Musical Director Simon Dunbavand return to St Michael’s for a Tea-time Concert featuring two contrasting settings of the Requiem and 2 songs from local composer Peter Nickol.
The “Missa pro Defunctis” by Portuguese composer Manuel Cardoso, published 1625, is on the cusp of the Baroque, while “Requiem” by Matthew Coleridge received its first performance in 2015 and will be conducted by the composer.
Matthew Coleridge’s highly accessible new Requiem is melodic, deeply moving, quietly powerful and intensely beautiful.
Peter Nickol lives in Exeter and sings with the Chorale; we sing his Finzi-like song “If I could shut the gate and keep out sorrow”, and give the first performance of the lament “Versa est in luctum”.
A Feast of Music in a variety of styles, with Tea & Cakes to enjoy too. All for £10 (students & children £6) on the door.

Apologies – sadly, we have had to cancel our second Concert on Friday 30th November at St Leonard’s Church, Exeter.
