Easter Eve, Saturday 11th April at 8pm, our Easter Vigil, Preparation of Paschal Candles & first Mass of Easter, for the whole Parish.

The Sung Exsultet (recording linked from the “Bar” below) is one of the most ancient & beautiful pieces of Christian Liturgy developed between c. AD 180-400.

This beautiful and atmospheric service takes us from darkness into light, reversing the sadness of yesterday’s Tenebrae with the good news of Christ’s Resurrection. We celebrate with Ceremonies at the Font, the Blessing of the New Fire and Lighting of The Paschal Candle, Sung Exsultet, Renewal of Baptismal Vows, and First Mass of Easter. The Full Set of Readings is linked here.

Hymn: Light’s Glittering Morn  (Words, possibly 4th Century (Aurora lucis rutilat); translated from Latin to English by John M Neale in 1851)

The Mass Setting would have been Stanford in C&F.Since by Man came death, by Man came also the Resurrection of the dead, Handel’s Messiah.

This service would have been followed at about 9.30pm by a Bring&Share, Sweet or Savoury, Buffet Party.

In 2019 we sang Mass Setting is by Harold Darke in E, and the Motet “Ex ore innocentium” by John Ireland.

In 2018 we sang the triumphal Stanford in C & F, and”Since by man came death, by Man came also the Resurrection”, from Handel’s Oratorio “The Messiah”.
